What If It Requires Further Action?

Posted by: admin - Category: General

Some things, like invitations, can’t be resolved on the first pass. We all get mail that can’t be decided upon right away. Mark Farley once told me, “On my desk, right now, are an invitation to a party and one to a wedding. They tend to stay on my desk because I don’t know what to do with them. There is no business file to put them in because they aren’t business related.”
Make the association that works best for you with a visualization and put the personal items in a personal hanging file. Invitations need to go into a date file, which you check every day. The dates also need to be put into your calendar. Schedule the date you need to take action in your contact manager, set an alarm, and get the paper off your desk. You don’t need it anymore.
Apply the same principles as above. The difference is you have to make entries for “The Task” (Conference or Speaking Engagements), besides the Company. Why? Because our minds file information in categories. While you might remember that “Reynolds Corp.” asked you to speak at their annual convention, you are more likely to remember that you are supposed to speak somewhere someday.
Make a second entry.
